DTF Heat Press Settings (Temp, Time, Pressure) + Fabric Tips
DTF Heat Press Settings (Temp, Time, Pressure) + Fabric Tips
If you want your transfers to look vibrant and stay stuck, heat press settings matter just as much as the transfer itself.
At Primal Graphx - Charlotte's #1 Premium DTF Provider, we help customers in Charlotte and ship nationwide. Use this guide to dial in consistent results.
Important: settings can vary by heat press, garment, and transfer type. Always test one first.
The 3 settings that control everything
Temperature
Too low can cause lifting. Too high can scorch shirts or affect the finish.
Time
Too short can cause weak adhesion. Too long can overheat the garment.
Pressure
DTF usually needs firm, even pressure. Uneven pressure is a common reason for edge lifting.
A simple way to find your best settings
Use a quick test method:
-
press 1 test on the same shirt type you will use
-
check edges, stretch test, and peel
-
wash test one sample before a big run when possible
If it fails, change only one variable at a time (temp, time, or pressure).
Fabric tips (what changes by shirt type)
100 percent cotton
-
usually presses very consistently
-
watch moisture and wrinkles
Poly blends
-
can press great, but watch heat sensitivity
-
avoid overheating to reduce shine or press marks
Hoodies and thicker garments
-
seams and pockets can create pressure gaps
-
use a pressing pillow or reposition to keep the print area flat
Common problems and what they usually mean
-
edges lifting: not enough pressure, moisture, or uneven surface
-
print looks dull: not enough heat, no finish press, or pressing through wrinkles
-
transfer not releasing: peel timing issue (hot vs cold peel)
-
press lines: too much pressure or no protective sheet
Use gang sheets to stay stocked and consistent
If you are pressing often, gang sheets help you keep best sellers ready and lower cost per print.

FAQ
Do I need a Teflon sheet or parchment?
It helps protect the garment and can reduce press lines. It is also useful for the finish press.
Why do my transfers peel after washing?
Most often it is not enough pressure, not enough heat, or skipping the finish press.
Can you help me fix my artwork?
Yes. Primal Graphx offers graphic designing to clean up files and make them press-ready.
