Shopify Checkout Not Working in Google Chrome? (Quick Fixes That Work)

If you are trying to place an order and checkout is not working in Google Chrome, do not stress. Most of the time it is not Shopify itself. It is usually something in the browser (extensions, cookies, popups, or privacy settings) blocking checkout from loading correctly.

Here are the fastest fixes.

Quick fix first (do this in 60 seconds)

  1. Open an Incognito window in Chrome

  2. Go back to our site and try checkout again

Incognito mode often works because many extensions are disabled by default.

The most common reasons Chrome checkout has issues

1) Browser extensions blocking checkout

Ad blockers, privacy blockers, coupon extensions, and some antivirus extensions can interfere with Shopify checkout.

Try this:

  • Disable extensions temporarily, then refresh and try again

  • Or use Incognito mode

Common examples:

  • Ad blockers

  • Privacy blockers

  • Coupon extensions

2) Cookies or cache causing a loop or blank page

Sometimes Chrome saves old session data that causes checkout to freeze, loop, or not load.

Try this:

  • Clear your browser cache and cookies

  • Or clear cookies for just our website

  • Restart Chrome and try again

3) Autofill issues (address and phone formatting)

Chrome autofill can insert extra spaces or formatting that causes shipping and payment forms to error out.

Try this:

  • Type your shipping address manually

  • Use numbers only for phone number

  • Double-check state and zip code

4) Popups and redirects blocked (Shop Pay, PayPal, Afterpay)

Some payment options open a secure popup or redirect. If popups are blocked, it can look like checkout is broken.

Try this:

  • Allow popups for our website

  • Try a different payment option (card vs Shop Pay vs PayPal)

5) VPN or network restrictions

Work Wi-Fi, corporate firewalls, and VPNs can block payment scripts.

Try this:

  • Turn off VPN

  • Switch to a different Wi-Fi network

  • Try mobile data

6) Chrome needs an update

An outdated browser can cause checkout pages to load incorrectly.

Try this:

  • Update Chrome

  • Restart your device
